Camp Kookaburra is a free weekend camp for children who live in a family affected by mental illness, between the ages of 8-12 years old.

Aims

  • Allow children the opportunity to have a break
  • Provide information on access to services that can act as a source of support, referral and links to appropriate help 
  • Give children the opportunity to talk in a supportive environment about issues they face everyday 
  • Allow children to learn coping skills in dealing with their family unit 
  • Make friends that share similar circumstances 
  • Build self confidence
  • Have fun and enjoy new experiences

Camp Details

  • Child must be between 8 to12 years of age 
  • Camp is run in March of each year over 1 weekend 
  • Volunteers of representatives from local services and community members attend the camp as leaders and supervisors 
  • Volunteers are interviewed and have a security check and working with children check. (This check is done by Dept. Ageing Disability and Homecare)
  • Volunteers attend training prior to camp 
  • Transport is available to and from camp for children and volunteers.
